Hyde Clarendon achieved a 99% A level pass rate

Students from the area were celebrating this week as they received their A level results, and for the third year in a row Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College had an extra reason to cheer as students beat the national average pass rate.

This year 99% of students achieved a pass at A level well above the national average of 97.5%. The college was buzzing as students shared the special day with proud family, friends and tutors. Many students will now look to the future as they enter work or progress to university.

One student who is looking forward to university is Michael Trueman who achieved 3 A’s at A Level and one A at AS Level. Michael is this year’s top earner scoring a total of 420 UCAS points. Through college, Michael has taken part in many extra curricular activities including Key Skills and Thai Chi. Michael has been accepted at the prestigious Imperial College London studying for a BSc in Physics. In the future he is looking to go onto a Masters Degree and eventually a PhD.

Another student who has excelled during her studies at the College is Klaudia Kaczmarek. Originally from Poland, Klaudia moved to the UK two years ago and then started at Hyde Clarendon. Studying Maths, Chemistry and Geography at A level where she achieved two A’s and a B, she also took Further Maths at AS level achieving grade B. Klaudia has secured a place at The University of Liverpool, studying Pharmacology.

Head of Sixth Form Sarah McCurrie said, "Once again Hyde Clarendon has proved that is it one of the best performing colleges in the country with a 99% A Level pass rate compared with the national average 97.5%. Over two thirds of students achieved high grades, with the vast majority being accepted at their first choice of university: a fantastic accomplishment.
