Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

An EMA is a weekly payment worth up to £30 for eligible students in further education. The weekly payments are intended to help cover the day-to-day costs that you have to meet when you come to College such as travel costs, books and equipment for the courses. There are also cash bonuses if you remain on your courses and make good progress with your learning. Payments will be made directly to your bank account, so if you haven’t got one already, you will need to open one before applying for EMA.

What are the features of EMA?

Weekly payment bands of £30, £20 and £10 per week depending on household income. Bonus payments of £100. Available for all full-time college courses.
