Computing - AS/A2

Are you fascinated by how computers work ‘behind the scenes’? Do you have an interest in computer programming? This could be the course for you.

Computing is suitable for students you are inspired by technology and who would like to solve problems in innovative ways. The course takes you inside the hardware by looking at processors, system design and networking. Students will also learn to develop software solutions using modern programming languages.

Students should have good GCSE Maths and English grades as part of their entry package.

Assessment comprises of set examinations and the creation of a project comprising of programming and databases. If you wish to go onto higher education in the field of computing, this course is a logical choice.

BTEC First IT Practitioners 

This is a one year course that can guide you onto a higher level course or give you skills towards employment. The course includes:

  • Using ICT to present information Introduction to computer systems
  • Website design Software design and development
  • Customising software applications
  • Installing hardware components.

All assessment is by coursework.

There are no examinations.

Students who achieve a merit/distinction could move onto a National Diploma for IT Practitioners.

BTEC National Diploma in Computing IT – IT Practitioners

Are you the sort of student who wants to understand computers inside and out? Are you hoping to pursue a degree or a career in the field of computing? Look no further.

The National Diploma in ICT is a comprehensive course which covers a large range of topic areas including, but not limited to: Hardware and Networks Applications Software Web Development Systems analysis and design Software development using visual languages

Applied ICT - AS/A2

Do you want to be able to use a computer well? Will you need ICT in your chosen career?

This course teaches you about how ICT affects society, how it is used in organisations and how to handle data using applications such as spreadsheets and databases. In addition you will work in a team to develop project management skills, as well as creating an interactive multimedia project.

The units are assessed by a portfolio of practical work. There is a timed assessment for each year, This course will prepare you for careers using ICT, or higher study.
